Varieties of Koi
· Koi come in many different colors.
· The major colors are white, black, red, yellow, blue, and cream.
· There are 19 different types of koi.
· Kohaku- white-skinned koi, with large red markings on top. koi_varieties.jpg
· Taisho Sanshoku- similar to Kohaku, except with black markings.
· Showa Sanshoku- black koi with red and white markings.
· Tancho- Any koi with a solitary red patch on its head.
· Asagi- light blue top with red bottom.
· Utsurimono- black koi with white, red, or yellow markings.
· Bekko- white, red, or yellow-skinned koi with small black markings.
· Goshiki- black koi with red, white, brown, and blue accents.
· Shusui- has no scales, name means Autumn Jade.
· Kinginrun- metallic scales, gold and silver scales.
· Kawarimono- orange with white scales.
· Ogon- metallic scales, colors are gold, platinum, and orange, one color.
· Kumonryu- black fish with curling white markings. Changes color with seasons.
· Doitsu-goi- German mirror carp, single line of large mirror-like scales.
· Ochiba- light blue koi with yellow patches.
· Koromo- patches of blue, black edged scales.
· Hikari- moyomono-colored markings over a metallic base.
· Ghost Koi- hybrid of Ogon and wild carp.
· Butterfly Koi- long-finned, bred in America.

Koi are mainly hunted because of their color. Koi eat a variety of food such as fleas, lettuce, and watermelons. When temperature drops below 50 degrees, feeding halts.
